Ka.3 Valdresflya Vandrerhjem Hostel to Bydin Fjellhotel lodge
4 hours / 14km
50m / 390m
A marked path in the summer and a partially marked ski route in the spring.

Leave Valdresflya Vandrerhjem hostel and follow the marked path Ka.2 for 1½ hours south west across the flat Valdresflye plateau and then down into the valley between the steep knoll of Øystre Fagerdalshøe and Rasletind. As you reach the south end of this steep knoll the path reaches a fork. The south west fork continues along Ka.2 for another 2½-3 hours to Torfinnsbu lodge. Our route, which is not marked in the winter but is marked in the summer, now veers southwards.

Head south for 2 km now across gentle and generally dry slopes following the path between the two small knolls of Synsbekkknuppane on the west and the gentle slopes of Heimre Fagerdalshøe on the east. This takes you into the small lush and hidden valley of Heimre Fagerdalen. Cross some marshy ground when a view of Bygdin lake reappears. Cross a small beck and then make a traversing descent for a good km until you reach the gravel track and the abandoned Bygdisheim lodge just beyond it.

At this sad lodge you meet the marked path Ka.1 from Torfinnsbu lodge. Our route now follows this path along a locked gravel track which goes round the north shore of the lake for 3 km to Bygdin Fjellhotel lodge. During the winter/spring this stretch is marked with twig branches along the road which is not cleared. Do not be tempted to cut over the ice here as it is suspect.
