Uranos Massif

Scandinavian Mountains over 2000 metres - James Baxter

AreasUranos Massif › Detailed Information

Uranos Massif is a small compact massif of four mountains in the south of Jotunheimen. The mountains are all of an alpine character and contain some classic arêtes. The It is a very heavily glaciated massif with 3 large glaciers flowing out of the heart of it.

All the mountains in this massif can be climbed without traveling across the glaciers but this means starting in the remote Skogadalen valley. If the start point is in the much more accessible south the crossing of glaciers is almost inevitable.

All the mountains with the exception of Sagi are quite feasible in the winter/spring, when some of these glaciers are considered safe (the glaciers are never completely safe however). Indeed one of the mountains, Langeskavlstind, makes for a superb ski ascent in spring.
