This is an alternative route to Hu.4. At hairpins on the gravel road don't head up to Ekrehytta but head south up the track for 1km to the next hairpin. Then leave the track and follow the faintly marked path east along the north of a small lake. Head south east for 1½km to enter the impressive Styggedalen valley and reach another lake.
Pass to the north of this lake and continue east for 1km to reach another lake. Pass this to the south and shortly reach another lake at 1470m.This you pass on the north and once past that lake keep north east and descend to Gjertvatnet lake on the south side of the Kaiser pass.
At the south end of this lake you meet the established Turtagrø to Skogadalsbøen path which is followed as described under Hu.4.
