Stercorarius longicaudus, Long-tailed Skua, Fjelljo. 53cm.
A summer visitor to the moorland and tundra zones, common if it is a lemming year, otherwise rare.
The nest is on the ground and is aggressively defended.
They hover while hunting for lemmings and other small rodents which they need to rear their young. If it is a poor lemming year they may not breed in the mountains.
The male and female are similar.
