Charadrius morinellus, Dotterel, Boltit. 23cm.
An alpine summer visitor found in the alpine zone.
The nest is a scrape lined with moss and lichen. The female is the dominant sex and once the eggs are laid the male continues the domestic duties. They eat insects and their larvae.
The slightly larger females are gregarious in the breeding season and both are outside it. The males feign injury if the nest is approached in the breeding season.
