Store Smørstabbtind is best climbed from Krossbu on the Sygnefjell road. Indeed due to the precipitous nature of Store Smørstabbtind, the north-west ridge is the only route to the top without climbing techniques. This route up the north-west ridge does not involve any glacier crossing either so is ideal for those without climbing equipment. It does involve a steep short section and this could be exposed in the snow so is ideally suited to a summer ascent.
